เทสโมสชฺช  คจฺฉนฺติ,    สีหา  สปฺปุริสา  คชา;
ตตฺเถว  นิธนํ  ยนฺติ,    กากา  กาปุริสา  มิคา.

ราชสีห์ ๑ สัตบุรุษ ๑ ช้างสาร ๑ ทั้ง ๓ พวกนี้  ละทิ้งสถานที่อยู่แล้วหนีไป(หาที่เจริญ)  
ส่วนอีกา ๑ คนชั่ว ๑ ฝูงเนื้อ ๑ ทั้ง ๓ พวกนี้  ย่อมถึงความตาย ณ ที่นั้นนั่นเอง.

ราชสีห์หนึ่ง คนดีหนึ่ง ช้างสารหนึ่ง สามพวกนี้  ย่อมทิ้งถิ่นที่ไม่ดี ไปหาสถานที่ ๆ เหมาะ ส่วนกาหนึ่ง  คนชั่วหนึ่ง มฤคหนึ่ง ย่อมคอยท่าความตายอยู่ในถิ่นเดิม.

อีกสำนวนหนึ่ง จากราชนีติ ธรรมนีติ โดย นายทอง หงศ์ลดารมภ์ (มหากิม) ท่านแปลไว้น่าฟัง ดังนี้...

สีหะ ๑ คนดี ๑ ช้างสาร ๑ ทั้ง ๓ พวกนี้  ย่อมทิ้งถิ่นที่ไม่ดีไปหาสถานที่เหมาะ   ส่วนกา ๑ คนชั่ว ๑ เนื้อทราย ๑ ทั้ง ๓ พวกนี้  ย่อมคอยท่าความตายอยู่ในถิ่นเดิมอันแห้งแล้ง.
